People living in the Northern and Western division need to take necessary precautions and move to high ground as heavy rain is expected to continue in the North while a heavy rain warning is now issued for the Western Division.

The Nadi Weather Office says a heavy rain warning is in force for the western half of Viti Levu from Sigatoka to Rakiraki, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Yasawa, Mamanuca, Northern Lau Group and Lomaiviti Group.

Expect heavy rain and thunderstorms in these areas.

Flash flooding is likely.

A heavy rain alert remains in force for the rest of Fiji.

For these areas, heavy rain is expected to increase from later today.

An active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain remains slow moving over Fiji. It is expected to affect the country until mid next week.

A flood warning remains in force for the low lying areas, small streams and areas adjacent to downstream of Dewala and Wairiki-cake to Labasa Town along Labasa River, and Dreketilailai to Qawa along Qawa River.

A flood alert remains in force for the low lying areas, small streams and areas adjacent to the rest of the major rivers in Vanua Levu and Taveuni.

The next high tide is at 10.14 tonight.

Members of the public are urged to call their respective Command Centers if they need assistance as the Divisional Police Commanders have their standby teams ready to be deployed.
