Heavy rain is currently being experienced in Labasa Town.
Flood waters at the Soasoa flats in Labasa are not receding and people have been stuck on either side of the flooded flats.
Soasoa Flats got flooded after continuous heavy rain and we also received confirmation that Qawa River burst its banks earlier today.
Flood waters are about to enter some houses in Soasoa flats.
Most of the shops in Labasa Town were closed at around midday and staff were sent home, however, some major supermarkets were still open.
Flood waters have also not receded in Nagigi, Coqeloa, Naleba and Vunivutu this afternoon.
A resident of Soasoa community, Dharshika Deo has confirmed to Fijivillage that heavy rain was experienced around midday today and water levels remain the same.
More than 300 families in the Vunivau community are unable to access the main roads due to flood waters and they are still waiting for water levels to recede.
Other areas that are still affected by flood waters include Batinikama, Vunivau and Bulileka.
Meanwhile, Savusavu District Officer Kalivati Rabuka has confirmed that flood waters have receded in Vunivesi village.
Road closure:
The Fiji Roads Authority has confirmed that a total of thirteen roads are still closed in the Northern Division.
These roads include Qawa Crossing at Boubale in Bulikela, Urata Crossing in Bulileka and the Soasoa Flats on Wainikoro Road in Labasa.
Other roads that are closed include Colo Crossing on Kawakawavesi in Natua, Qelemumu Crossing on Qelemumu Road in Labasa, Vulovi to Soasoa flats in Wainikoro in Labasa, All Saints flat at Bulileka in Labasa and Emily Point in Siberia, Labasa.
FRA says that the only access to Labasa Town is from the Nabouwalu side.
The Bulileka and Wainikoro side is inaccessible and is closed to all traffic.
Namoli Road from Bridge 2 to Jim’s Service Station is under half a metre of water and is also closed to all traffic.
Savusavu:
All roads in Savusavu Town are open to all traffic.
Bagasau Crossing in Nakobo and Bagata Crossing are closed to traffic.
