Fiji Rugby Union received a sponsorship of $500,000 today from CJ Patel for the 2018 Skipper Cup competition.
While launching this year’s Skipper Cup, FRU Development Manager Sale Sorovaki acknowledged CJ Patel for the increased sponsorship from $380,000 to $500,000.
Sorovaki says the sponsorship will help the development of grassroot level of rugby in the country this came after he announced the inclusion of the 2018 women’s 10s competition.
Each team will receive $40,000 as part of their preparation.
Sorovaki adds this is also a historic moment for FRU as they will offer contracts for coaches and players.
Team captains from each team also showcased their new kits for this year’s Skipper Cup tournament.
The winning team this year will walk away with $30,000 while the runner-up will get $15,000.
Meanwhile, the draws for the Skipper Cup 2018 were also released today.
Defending champions Nadroga will take on Nadi next Saturday at Prince Charles Park.
In other first-round matches, Namosi will host Naitasiri, Malolo will play Suva and Navosa will face Rewa.
The women’s competition will be launched sometime next week.
