Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan has been sentenced to five years imprisonment after he was found guilty of poaching in the year 1998.

The BBC reports that in a major setback to actor Salman Khan, a Jodhpur trial court has sentenced him to 5 years in jail in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case.

Jodhpur District Presiding Officer Devkumar Khatri pronounced Salman guilty of killing two blackbucks which are an endangered species on the 1st of October, 1998 during a hunting expedition near Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

The court has also fined Khan 10,000 rupees for the crime.

The 52-year-old can appeal against the verdict in a higher court, however, correspondents say he will have to spend at least a few days in prison.
