Manueli Tulo finished 4th at the 2018 Commonwealth Games with a total of 239Kg.
He snatched 104Kg in the Snatch successfully and 135Kg in the Clean & Jerk.
Tulo’s second lift of 108Kg in the Snatch was disallowed when the jury over‑ruled the referee's decision of successful lift.
The jury ruled that Tulo dropped the bar before he was given the signal.
Video replays show no reason why that lift would be disallowed and several top officials also disagreed with the jury decision and said that in any case Tulo should have been given the benefit of doubt.
Tulo attempted the 110Kg immediately after his successful 108Kg attempt was overturned but missed it.
In the Clean & Jerk he lifted 135Kg as his first lift and closely missed the 140Kg. By this time the competition had gone way ahead and so he attempted the 145Kg as his last attempt to get amongst the medals.
He had never attempted 145kg before, but he had to go for it to keep him in the medal contention.
The Men’s 56Kg event was won by Muhammad Izhar Ahmad from Malaysia with India taking Silver and Sri Lanka winning the Bronze.
Weightlifting Fiji officials were very proud of the solid performance by Manueli Tulo in the Men's 56kg finals as he showed great composure and true courage in a challenging situation.
