A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years and three months imprisonment after being convicted of a count of sexual assault and two counts of rape by Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge.
Andrew Mark Rod had raped and sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman on 7th Se30ptember 2016 in Lautoka.
Justice Aluthge stated that Rod offered a lift to the victim who was walking to a nearby shop to buy detergent.
He adds that the victim boarded the vehicle believing that she will be dropped at the shop however Rod did not stop the vehicle at the shop and he drove to an isolated house in a remote area and raped the victim.
A non-parole period of seven years has been set.
