A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for robbing a person of his mobile phone which had a value of $199 by Judge Justice Vinsent Perera.

Joel Bower with another robbed a person on 1st November 2017 at Nasinu and at the time of the robbery used force on the person.

Justice Perera highlighted that Bower in his mitigation submission stated that he came to Suva from Levuka to support his family however in open court Bower had said that he came to Viti Levu to live with his grandmother after he had an argument with his parents.

He adds that there is a clear contradiction between what he submitted and what he said in court.

A non-parole period of three years has been set.
