A 43 year old farmer has been sentenced to 12 years and 11 months imprisonment after being convicted of a count of rape by Lautoka High Court Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge.
The man who is the granduncle of the 8 year old girl raped her on 6th October 2016 in Rakiraki.
Justice Aluthge stated that while the girl was playing hide and seek with her cousin, the man grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the creek where he raped her.
He adds that the courts and the society cannot condone any form of sexual assault on children and it must be denounced to save little children for their own future.
A non-parole period of 10 years has been set.
