Expect more rain as a trough of low pressure with an embedded low pressure system continues to move into the Fiji group from the west and is expected to affect the group till later tonight.

The Nadi Weather Office says this system is bringing associated cloud and rain with strong and gusty winds that are expected to affect the country till later tonight.

A heavy rain warning in force for Fiji group.

A damaging heavy swell warning also remains in force for low lying coastal areas of Kadavu, Beqa, Vatulele, Southern Lau group, Mamanuca group, Southern and Western Viti Levu. Southern Viti Levu includes Nadali, Bau, Nausori, Verata and Korovou while Western Viti Levu includes Rakiraki, Ba, Lautoka, Nadi and Sigatoka.

That’s according to the latest update by the Nadi Weather Office this morning.

Sea flooding is likely especially during high tides.

The next high tide is at 6pm today.

 

Peak waves of about 3.5 to 4.5 metres are expected over open  waters.

The Weather Office says the damaging heavy swells will gradually start easing from tonight.

There was record rainfall in Lodoni, Lomaivuna and Navua yesterday. There was over 50 millimeters of rain in these areas according to the Weather Office.

Situation report:

Roads

Some roads around the Southern Division are flooded due to blocked drains.

This includes Jerusalem Road from the Service Station end which has been closed off. A car is trapped in floodwaters along Jerusalem road. Please take alternative routes.

Part of Karsanji Road near the Pure Fiji Office is also flooded.

The Reservoir Road roundabout is also flooded.

Floodwaters have entered five homes in the Veiraisi Settlement in Nadera.

 

Resident Ritesh Kumar says they are assisting people to evacuate.
