Police Constable Alusio Palu who is one of the state witnesses in the murder trial of Imshad Izrar Ali told the court that he saw the body of the deceased under the kitchen table.

Ali is charged with the alleged murder of his 34-year-old partner at their Howell Road home in Suva in 2009.

The deceased who was a kindergarten teacher was allegedly strangled to death inside her home.

Palu told the court that the deceased was facing upwards and her head was covered with blood when they discovered her body.

He also said that Ali seemed to have been in a state of shock.

During cross examination defence lawyer Abhay Singh put to the constable that in his police statement he had stated that the deceased was found lying on her back to which Palu said yes.

Singh also put to the constable that no where in his statement had he put that the deceased was in a pool of blood to which he said yes.

During re-examination the state lawyer asked Palu why he had not mentioned in his statement that the deceased was found in a pool of blood.

Palu responded saying he forgot.

The next prosecution witness was Inspector Sakuisa Jitoko who told the court that when he had gone to the crime scene on 3rd November 2009 he saw bruises on the deceased’s neck, left jaw and he also saw blood stains below her legs.

State Lawyer Meli Vosawale asked the witness what he had noted as some items, that could have caused the injuries to the deceased.

Jitoko said that he had found an electric kettle cord which was on top of the kitchen sink area.

The case will continue today.
