A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to 14 years and seven months imprisonment by the Lautoka High Court for raping his step‑daughter.
The man raped his 14-year-old step‑daughter who is a special needs child.
The incident occurred on 14th June 2015 in Nadi.
Judge Justice Sunil Sharma stated that the victim who is intellectually impaired and a slow learner was threatened with a cane knife by the accused after he raped her by saying that he will chop her if she told anyone what had happened.
Justice Sharma said that there has been an increase in sexual offences involving offenders who are matured adults.
A non‑parole of 12 years has been set.
