Fiji Broadcasting Corporation and its CEO Riyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum have sued Fiji Labour Party for defamation for an online post.
The matter was called before High Court Master Vishwa Sharma this morning.
FBC’s lawyer Emmanuel Narayan informed the court that FBC would like to amend its claim due to the Fiji Labour Party allegedly making further defamatory claims on its Facebook page.
FLP lawyer Dharmendra Kumar said he does not object to the amendments however the cost must be paid.
Narayan further said he will need to consult Riyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum regarding the cost.
It alleged that the facebook post by FLP claimed that FBC was unable to service its loan of about $21million and that the Chief Executive Officer of FBC had to turn to the Attorney‑General to bail him out of the mess and the taxpayers got butchered in the process, as an easy way was found to settle the matter.
Narayan states that the post is defamatory and has caused grave reputational damage to Riyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum and FBC.
The case has been adjourned to 2nd July for mention.
