A fishing vessel which is called K Danuri ran aground in the Lami Bay area on Saturday evening.

Fiji Ports Corporation Limited’s, Chief Executive Officer, Vajira Piyasena says this was due to the strong winds which caused the vessel to break its mooring lines and drift from where it was anchored in the Suva Harbour.

He adds that the vessel was not properly or adequately manned at the time of the incident.

Piyasena says a removal order and an infringement notice has been issued to the owner.

Fiji Ports has engaged South Sea Towage Limited (SSTL) & Owners to refloat the vessel from its grounding position and because of the adverse weather conditions, it is yet to conduct the salvage operations.

He says the salvage crew is conducting assessment and is preparing to salvage the ship at high water.

Piyasena says the vessel's hull is completely intact and there are no signs of breach or pollution spill.
