Five national swimming records have been broken at the 2018 National Schools Swimming Championship that was held at the Damodar Aquatic Center.
Temafa Yalimaiwai of Marist Brothers High School broke three national records.
The 400 metres Freestyle National Swimming record which was set in 1992 was broken by Yalimaiwai.
He set a new record of 4.26.20 seconds.
The old record was 4.26.41 seconds which was set by Carl Probert.
Yalimaiwai also broke two of his own records
In the 100 metres butterfly, he set a new time of 58.57 seconds.
The second record he set was in the 200 metres butterfly which was 2.12.61 seconds.
Miley King of Nadi Airport School set 3.23.76 seconds in the 200 metres breaststoke Under 10 grade to break the national record of 3.25.24 that was set by Aimee Elaisa at the LC Grand Prix in 2015.
Moana Wind of St Joseph’s Secondary School broke the National Record in the 50 meters Butterfly where she set a time of 29.51 seconds.
The old record which is 29.69 seconds was set by Yolani Blake during the 2016 Oceania Swimming Championship.
