The Fiji Roads Authority has confirmed that over the next 12 months, they will be carrying out streetlight renewals for 76 streets in Suva.
It says many of these street lights are within the central business district.
The Fiji Roads Authority says they will prioritise these based on public consideration which will improve safety and security.
This comes after Fijivillage asked the Fiji Roads Authority whether they have plans to increase lighting along Carnarvon Street in Suva.
A man who was mugged in an isolated area near a nightclub in Suva last Sunday is calling for increased lighting and surveillance in areas near nightclubs in the capital city.
Lavetanalagi Seruiraduvatu says this is the third time that he has been mugged along a nightclub area in Suva.
In the latest incident, he was returning from enjoying Suva's nightlife after 1am on the 17th of this month when he was attacked by a group of men.
Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says their officers are patrolling and while they cannot be everywhere, they are conducting regular patrols especially during times when the capital city is busy during the weekends.
