The National Federation Party believes in the concept of a minimum living wage that will give individuals the income level that will allow them to make ends meet at a reasonable level and have a decent living.

When asked on what NFP wants in this week’s budget announcement, NFP Leader, Professor Biman Prasad says they will be revealing what they want in the budget in their budget response.

He says that NFP has already proposed that when they come into government, they will institute a minimum living wage of $5 an hour because they believe that anything less than that in the formal sector is tantamount to oppressing the workers of the country and those that are struggling to make ends meet.

The national wage rate for the informal sector is $2.68. There are also ten separate industry wages councils with varying minimum wage rates for the different sectors.
