“Only one person can take control and responsibility for your Health, it is not something you can delegate to someone else.”
These were the words of Permanent Secretary for Education, Alison Burchell while speaking at the launch of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Week at Vunimono Hall today.
Burchell also urged students from the 17 schools that were present to take responsibility for their choices and their health.
She highlighted that some people turn to drugs to runaway from their problems and encouraged students to speak to their parents, teachers and students councils to help them address the cause of the problems students may face.
Primary and Secondary Schools around the country will have programs in their own schools to commemorate International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking focused on topics that include reducing violence and child abuse, reducing sustance abuse, social media and fighting NCD’s and good mental health.
This year’s theme of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Week is ‘Healthy Child, Protective Family, Safer Schools, Better Fiji.’
