A New Zealand Yacht Captain and two women are in police custody following the seizure of a large quantity of a mix of different types of ammunition.
Fiji Revenue and Customs Service Chief Executive Officer, Visvanath Das has confirmed that a team from customs searched the Yacht in Savusavu on Tuesday where the ammunition were found.
He says their teams intelligence and profiling processes are determining high risk vessels and collaborative efforts with Police and Navy has led to the seizure.
Das also highlighted of the raid last weekend that led to a massive drug find on an Australian based yacht and their officers dutifully exposing another smuggling attempt.
Police Commissioner, Sitiveni Qiliho says Fiji continues to quash the notion that a small Pacific Island nation will not be able to effectively police its borders.
He says the joint operation is again bringing to the forefront the effectiveness of the inter agency collaboration between law enforcement agencies both in Fiji and with international law enforcement partners.
Qiliho says the latest seizures and interceptions made at our points of entry shows the increased level of collaboration between all involved agencies they continue to look at ways to improve the status quo so that those involved in these illegal trades will know that Fiji’s borders are monitored.
