The Water Authority of Fiji is allocated $5.2M to replace defective meters nationwide to reduce billing errors and improve water meter accuracy.
5,365 meters will be replaced and 3,000 water meters will be newly installed in the Central, Western and Northern Divisions.
Water Authority is allocated $2.5M for the installation and replacement of meters while another $2.5M has been allocated for the procurement of 285 electromagnetic flow meters and 10,000 domestic and commercial meters.
$8 million was also allocated for the Non-Revenue Water Reduction Project which is aimed to fix leakages throughout the Water Authority of Fiji systems.
In an effort to increase water distribution infrastructure capacity to meet the growing demand for safe drinking water, government has allocated $51.70M under the Water Distribution System Project.
$2.43M has been allocated for the hydraulic mains improvement and for the replacement and duplication of aged pipes to reduce water loss.
Meanwhile, 23,382 people will be benefitting from the Rural water Supply Programme and government has allocated $27M for this programme.
There is a total of 38 Rural Water Supply projects in the Central Division, 15 in the Eastern Division, 27 in the Western Division and 53 in the Northern.
Water Authority of Fiji has been allocated a total of $349.3m in the 2018/2019 National Budget.
