The 39‑year‑old man who was found guilty of raping his cousin in Beqa in 2016 has been sentenced to 11 years, 9 months and 20 days imprisonment by High Court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza.
While delivering the sentence, Justice Hamza said it was proven in court that the man had raped the girl in Beqa on the 23rd and 24th of December, 2016.
The man was charged with 3 counts of rape and 1 count of Sexual Assault.
A non‑parole period of 10 years has been set.
Justice Hamza said the man had exposed the innocent child’s mind to sexual acts and as a result she has suffered emotional trauma and experienced memory loss.
He added that rape is the most serious form of sexual assault and the court will not condone such acts.
