The Methodist Church of Fiji Superintendent of the Indian Division, Reverend Immanuel Reuben has stressed that they will keep the name Indian Division because they reach out and Minister for the Indian people of Fiji.

Reverend Rueben says they do not want to change their name to Hindi Speaking Division.

When asked on whether he believes this is an unnecessary classification based on race which goes against the spirit of the constitution, Reverend Reuben said they speak the Hindi language and if they lose the name and change it, they might lose focus on their call which is to administer to the Indian people.

We also raised the issue that Indians are those who are Indian citizens.

He says that they had already debated on this issue when motions were moved for the name change, but when they spoke about their core existence of their mission, they decided that the name stays on.

Reverend Reuben says that their intention is not to divide the people of Fiji but to take the message across.

He says that many of their congregations are also residing overseas who also attend Hindi services.
