Outspoken former Wallabies coach Alan Jones believes Australia should be playing world class flanker Michael Hooper at centre, outside Kurtley Beale in No 10.

And he has urged them to drop their conservative approach if they are to keep the Bledisloe Cup series alive against the All Blacks at Eden Park on Saturday.

Jones, who was never shy to try innovations and knew how to beat New Zealand in his day, has called for a radical approach to the second test on the back of last week's 38‑13 loss that has the Wallabies facing a huge assignment to try to break their long Bledisloe Cup drought from here, especially at their bogey ground in Auckland.

Jones believes Hooper has the skills to transfer to the middle of the backline and that the Wallabies have loose forward depth to cover that.

Jones obviously has little time for current playmaker Bernard Foley.

He says if they don't have a number 10 who can challenge the line, but rather is there to kick the ball away to secure 'territory', he would question whether Foley is the man they want.

Jones felt kicking was a common Australian crime against a quality counter‑attacking team like New Zealand.

The Wallabies will face the All Blacks at 7.35pm tomorrow.
