The Fiji Roads Authority says they have noticed an increase in the number of drains on road reserves being frequently covered in household rubbish.
FRA General Manager Central Aram Goes says this not only causes pollution but it also creates extra work for the contractors.
Goes says FRA contractors periodically clean, mow and remove the overgrown weeds and self- sown trees to keep the road reserves clear of vegetation, debris as well as other obstructions.
He says they are working with town councils to ensure developers and residents whose activities are done outside of their private boundaries are complying with the relevant Acts and bylaws to protect the road assets and to see that the public’s safety is not compromised.
