Crusaders coach Scott Robertson kept his cards close to his chest over the prospect of becoming the next All Blacks coach, following the shock retirement of front runner Joe Schmidt overnight.
As Ireland coach Schmidt revealed that he will walk away from coaching after next year's World Cup, and with All Blacks boss Steve Hansen's future unclear after 2019, Robertson is now among a handful of candidates in contention to take the reigns of the New Zealand side.
In Christchurch today Robertson was asked about his chances now that a major contender in Schmidt has dropped out of the race.
Off contract at the end of 2019, Scott Robertson wants to see how the coaching cards fall before deciding on his future.
All Blacks Coach, Steve Hansen, will shortly decide whether or not he wants to coach the All Blacks beyond next year's World Cup in Japan. If he indicates he does, it would then be up to the NZ Rugby board to decide if they want to re‑appoint him.
