The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s coach Gareth Baber says while winning in Sydney this weekend is a big goal for his team, they are also continuing to be pressured in their bid for an Olympic spot.
Baber told Rugby.com.au that Sydney is a great place to go and play, and they will make sure they carry on with the quality they showed in Hamilton.
He says that since Hamilton, the challenge provided particularly from teams like Australia has gone upwards.
Baber says they know there is going to be a Fijian crowd in Sydney again this year which is superb and a win is the one they want to put to bed in terms of the last couple of years.
Coach Gareth Baber also highlighted that the team’s success also falls on the work the players do behind the scenes.
Fiji’s last win in Australia was at the Gold Coast 7s in the 2014-2015 series and they will be trying to win their first Sydney 7s title, come the weekend.
Fiji will face Japan in their first pool match at 12.34pm Saturday and meet England at 6pm while Fiji will play their last pool game against Samoa at 10pm Saturday.
The Cup quarterfinals start at 1.16pm Sunday, the semifinals start at 5.16pm while the final will start at 9.56pm Sunday.
