A record number of 95 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery students in their final year of studies at FNU’s College of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences are ready to head out to undertake hospital and community based components which is part of the programme as trainee interns.

FNU Assistant Surgery Professor Dr Abhay Choudhari highlighted that this is a historic number of traninee interns and has reiterated to the final year medical students that the hospital based component is very important as real medicine practice cannot be attained in books but through practical clinical rounds in hospital wards.

Meanwhile Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology Dr Kenton Biribo says a two-day orientation and workshop program that trainee interns are attending will aid them to work as a team at divisional hospitals while applying their skills to help patients.

Dr Biribo adds that this workshop will also equip students with the right skills to prioritise treatments rather than getting a shock especially when dealing with traumatic cases.

The trainee interns are currently undertaking an orientation and workshop program at Pasifika Campus before being posted at divisional hospitals as part of the final lap of their programme.
