One of the accused charged with the alleged murder of his workmate in Vuninokonoko, Navua in September 2017 told the Suva High Court today that he hit the victim with a piece of timber more than once.
It is alleged that William Peter Pickering and Kiriata Nangintabuariki murdered a 30‑year‑old man during a drinking party.
Kiriata while giving evidence told the court that he was aiming to hit the workmates back with a piece of timber.
Kiriata says while he was doing this, the 30-year-old man was trying to get up and he didn’t realise that he was hitting his head.
When questioned by state lawyer, Wakesa Elo, Kiriata denied that he continued hitting the workmates head with a piece of timber while he was laying motionless.
Kiriata also told the court that he sat beside the 30-year-old man and started crying after he saw blood coming out from the man’s head.
The trial continues in the Suva High Court.
