Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has confirmed on Facebook budget consultations for the 2019‑2020 National Budget that bus companies should not be charging any student who is in school uniform adult fares until 7pm.

This comes after a year 13 student from Jasper Williams High School highlighted that due to extra-curricular activities in the afternoon they tend to leave school after 4.30pm and board their buses at around 5pm.

Sayed‑Khaiyum stated that students can also travel on student fares on Saturdays from 5am to 7pm if they are in school uniform and have Saturday classes.

He says students can also call toll free number 151 and lodge their complaints with the Customer Care Consultant by advising the bus company charging adult fares.

Sayed‑Khaiyum says this complaint will then be reported to the relevant authorities for their action against bus companies.
