The Ministry of Fisheries is working to crack down on fishing of large amounts of undersized fish.
Director of Fisheries, Aisake Batibasaga has highlighted that this mostly happens in rivers and at the mouth of a river and under the current legislation this is not allowed.
However, Batibasaga says that this continues to happen in different divisions and this issue has called for a review of the Fisheries Coastal Legislation that will look into other measures to ensure that sustainable nets are used with strict conditions.
Batibasaga says that the Ministry of Fisheries has also had discussions to stop the production and importation of nets.
