Lock Michael Allardice will lead the Chiefs in this weekend's Super Rugby clash with the Jaguares in Buenos Aires, with Brodie Retallick given a week off as part of his All Blacks requirements.
27-year-old Allardice, will lead the Chiefs for the first time on Sunday morning, with Sam Cane also out of the clash due to a neck injury.
Coach Colin Cooper praised Allardice's ascension to the Chiefs' captaincy, saying that he is a good leader and provides plenty of experience to lead the team this week.
Elsewhere, All Black Nathan Harris will play his 50th match for the Chiefs, joined in the front row by Nepo Laulala with Angus Ta'avao dropping to the bench.
The Chiefs take on the Jaguares at 9.40am this Sunday.
