Youth leaders have been urged to always question if information they read or want to use on social media is verified by a credible and reliable source.

While speaking to the young leaders on Social Media and its impacts at USP, Publisher of Mai Life Magazine Naziah Ali Krishna stressed that fake news being shared or posted online has become a major issue when using social media today.

She urged the participants to take the extra mile and check credible sources for information they want to use or share and that they be critical thinkers and not believe everything they read.

Online Safety Commissioner Anne Dunn Baleilevuka echoed these sentiments and shared with the young leaders how negative posts can also be deemed as cyber bullying.

Baleilevuka also encouraged the youths present to learn to use social media to speak on issues that are affecting them and other young people in their areas that they feel need to be addressed and use these platforms to be a voice for change in their communities.
