The Fiji Parliamentary Reporters Handbook was launched today in the presence of the Prime Minister and members of Parliament.

While officiating at the ceremony, Media Industry Development Authority of Fiji Chairman Ashwin Raj says there is a fine balance between freedom of expression and the responsibilities that come with it.

He says the conversation took place almost three years ago for members of the media to have guidelines on how to report accurately, fairly and impartially on parliament sessions.

The handbook elaborates on freedom of speech, the role of the media, Media Code of Ethics, rules of Parliament and Parliamentary reporting, Parliamentary Privilege, the mechanics of Parliament and the sources of news in Parliament.

The handbook was put together by the Pacific Media Assistance Scheme with support from the United Nations Development Programme and the Governments of Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the UNDP.
