U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral John Aquilino says the US is committed to further strengthening and expanding cooperation between the Fiji and US navies.

He met with RFMF Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto and Commander of the Fiji Navy Captain Humphrey Tawake.  

Admiral Aquilino also met with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

The U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander says it is their hope that these talks will identify new areas for collaboration in order to help maintain security, stability and prosperity within the region.

Admiral Aquilino says both the United States and Fiji have many concerns about maritime domain awareness.

He says by partnering together through their Shiprider agreement and joint military training, they can improve maritime security in many ways ‑ from combatting illegal drug trafficking to curbing unreported, unregulated and illegal fishing.
