Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary, Agni Deo Singh says that if the Fiji Trades Union Congress decides to go ahead with the protest then the Fiji Teachers Union as an affiliate is obliged to participate.
Singh says that he will be making no further comments with regards to the protest.
He says that 5,000 members of the union are part of the workforce.
Singh also says that the Fiji Teachers Union is challenging the circular sent by the Ministry of Education on disciplinary action taken against teachers who will be part of any protest during the school holidays.
He says that the only leave that the teachers enjoy is the school holiday, therefore they are now being forced to sacrifice their leave.
It is a teachers’ only school day tomorrow to prepare for the new school term which starts on Monday.
