Papua New Guinea Opposition's motion to remove the Speaker of Parliament has been denied.

This comes after the Opposition decided not to go through with a vote of no confidence against PNG Prime Minister Peter O'Neill following his announcement that he will step down from his role of Prime Minister in the coming days.

The Speaker, Job Pomat revoked the motion to remove the Speaker saying that it was unconstitutional for Parliament to remove the Speaker.

The PNG Opposition later withdrew the motion however, Opposition Leader Patrick Pruaitch says the vote of no confidence is a work in progress and will be moved when the time is right. Earlier today PNG’s Opposition Leader and Leader of the National Alliance Party Patrick Pruaitch was chosen as the alternate Prime Minister.

According to reports by LegendFM News PNG when the Opposition wants to move a vote of no confidence they have to have a candidate for an alternate Prime Minister who will be the candidate to replace the current Prime Minister.
