Over 250 rice farmers in Nagigi and nearby areas in Labasa now have better access to mill their paddy.

This has been made possible through $8,000 worth of assistance provided to Nagigi based rice farmer, Mahesh Prasad to construct a rice mill shed which was officially opened by Agriculture Minister, Doctor Mahendra Reddy last night.

71 year old Prasad moved to Nagigi in 2012 due to expiry of his land lease at Wainikoro.

He is involved in sugarcane, rice and cash crop farming.

He has been running the rice mill business for the last 13 years and this has been one of his major sources of income.

Prasad is able to thresh a minimum of 1.43 tonnes of paddy a month and provides his rice mill services to farmers from almost all around Macuata province due to the location of his mill which is beside the main road running from Labasa Town to Wainikoro.

Reddy has thanked Prasad for his effort and support he is providing to the other rice farmers along Nagigi.

The assistance was provided to Prasad through the government's Rice Revitalisation Program.
