Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar is seriously concerned about what parents are doing about children selling food in different areas until late at night.
This is after 7 to 8 children approached Akbar at about 10.30pm about two weeks ago, asking her for money for food.
Akbar says from this incident, she knows that some parents are not monitoring the whereabouts of their children.
She says it is the parents duty to protect their children.
Akbar says due to the many dangers that are out there in the real world such as child abuse, sexual harassment, and rape, parents should always monitor what their children are doing.
She says the government has being doing their part as well as school teachers, but parents need to teach their children good values and morals so that they can become better people in the future.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Employment had highlighted that children below the age of 15 should not be put to work, since they are still in their school age group.
The Employment Ministry states they have signed an inter-agency guideline in December 2015 which is working towards a National Policy on Child Labour to ensure a collective approach towards eradicating child labour from our society.
