Minister for Education Rosy Akbar says the Ministry has spent almost $500 million dollars on primary and secondary education since 2014.

This includes $120 million on transport assistance, $347 million on free tuition grant, $10 million on free milk for Year 1 students and $14 million for free text books.

Speaking at the Fiji Head Teachers Association Annual Conference in Suva today, Akbar says the ministry is working towards increasing the number of intakes in primary schools in the future.

She also says there has been a 3 percent increase in the number of girls attending school since 2014.

Akbar adds they are still working on rebuilding schools that was destroyed during Tropical Cyclone Winston and work is almost complete.

Over 700 participants from all over the country are part of the Fiji Head Teachers Association Annual Conference for the next 3 days in Suva.
