Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will conduct the re-draw of taxi permits this afternoon for the Lautoka and Nadi zones.
Sayed-Khaiyum says many people in the past have acquired permits through corrupt means - because they went to the same school, church, temple or mosque, or someone had paid money to the officials.
He says the permit preferences will be given to low income earning families.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the re-draw has to be done because the last time, well-off families had applied for permits and there were 4 to 5 people within one family that had applied.
