The British High Commission has provided an assistance of about $27,000 to the iTaukei Affairs Board for their financial literacy program that assists villages across Fiji.

Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs, Meleti Bainimarama says this partnership with the British High Commission allows support in promoting entrepreneurship, financial literacy, business in small and medium enterprises, commercial agriculture and eco‑tourism at village level in Fiji.

While speaking at the Memorandum of Understanding signing today, Bainimarama says the scheduled visit as per the agreement between the commission and the Board will see fourteen villages, one from each province be visited and be informed about business activities they could carry out, entrepreneurship, small‑micro enterprises, financial literacy services in Fiji and other forms of income generating activities.

The British High Commissioner to Fiji, Melanie Hopkins says they are committed to provide assistance to the rural community and especially the women of Fiji.

She says the commission wants to have a better relationship with the i-Taukei community in the  rural areas of the country.

Bainimarama adds this agreement will enhance diverse delivery of financial literacy product and services from financial institutions that will contribute towards Fiji’s national gross domestic product.
