Opposition Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka says 2020 will be a special year in Fiji’s history where we will celebrate our Golden Jubilee Anniversary, 50 years of Independence.

In his New Year message, the leader of SODELPA says it’s time now that people should also look back and reflect on years gone by and what we hope to achieve as we move forward.

Rabuka says we should build on what our predecessors have left us, and shape the present for those who will come after us.

He says when Fiji gained Independence in 1970, he believes our founding fathers had hope and vision for Fiji to be united and progressive, through multiracialism so that all have a brighter future.

Rabuka says today, Fiji is racially divided and there is political division.

He says the economy is in crisis and it is unfortunate and despite professional and sound advice from experts particularly the financial development partners that Fiji will face headwinds and must take necessary precautionary measures to cushion the impact.

Rabuka says despite all the challenges, he is urging all citizens to come together united in 2020 for the common good.

Rabuka adds people should stop spending most of their time criticizing and ridiculing the enormous contribution made by our forefathers and the founding fathers of modern Fiji in their sacrifices and commitment in building our nation where we are today.
