National Federation Party leader Professor Biman Prasad says Fiji will begin 2020 recovering from a cyclone and perhaps it is a timely reminder that hard economic times are ahead and they have little confidence in the current government to solve problems.

In his New Year message, Prasad is urging the people to stay optimistic and positive as these times will pass but it is important that we learn from our history and not repeat our mistakes.

He says Fiji has been built on generosity and sharing and adds our quality of life depends on our willingness to share what we have with others.

Prasad says the indigenous people of Fiji have been generous with their land and resources and adds that over many decades they made room for other communities to build their lives and raise their families here.

He says for 50 years, different governments have built many things including roads, schools, hospitals and water supplies and paid the salaries of public servants.

He says all of these are important and necessary but these things do not build a country as it is built by the people.
