It is clear from the audited accounts of the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) for last year that the World Cup lottery did not work out well for the union as it recorded huge losses.
The total income from the lottery was $314,852 while the expenses amounted to $535,418.
The total prize money of $300,000 almost covered the total income.
However apart from that, overseas travelling directly in relation to the lottery amounted to $20,000, salaries and wages totalled $35,892, advertising and marketing was $54,268 dollars, commission on sales was $31,400 and the gambling turnover tax was $47,228.
The total loss from the lottery stands at $220,000.
The lottery loss contributed greatly to the overall loss for the FRU in 2010 which was just over $227,000.
Meanwhile the FRU lottery case is still before the courts.
