The Sugar ministers from the African Caribbean and Pacific or ACP states have urged the European Union and the European Commission to ensure that the funds designated for Fiji are immediately released to assist the affected farmers and the sugar industry.
At the conclusion of the 12th ACP Ministerial Conference on Sugar this week in Mozambique, the conference noted the failure in the release of Accompanying Measures Support Programme funds has had significant adverse impact on the sugar industry's reform and rehabilitation programme.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama who attended this meeting met the Prime Minister of Mozambique discussing a wide range of issues including exchange of views on the status of the sugar industries in both countries.
