Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has reminded the members of the Tailevu Provincial Council the importance of education.
While opening the council meeting today Bainimarama said education is free, and parents, the vanua and the church should not rely heavily on teachers in educating the children.
He said people should not be swayed by comments that there is less scholarships for the I-Taukei and they should change their mind set that the I-Taukei are not well educated.
He also said the council should not forget about the women and young girls in the community and they should be well looked after.
Bainimarama highlighted that government has spent around $109 million for development works in the province which includes agriculture, roads, health, education and social welfare.
He reminded the council that this year we will have a one man one vote election and there will be no more race based voting system.
