The Vodafone Fiji 7s team lost to Samoa 28-14 in its first pool match of the Singapore 7s.

It was a physical encounter and Samoa overpowered Fiji at the kickoffs and the rucks.

Samoa led Fiji 14-7 at half time.

The physical Samoans scored another two tries in the second half to extend their lead.

Vatemo Ravouvou and Nemani Nagusa scored two tries for Fiji.

Fiji 7s coach, Ben Ryan says they just did not work hard to make important tackles.

Ryan says it is not over yet even though they lost to Samoa.

Meanwhile, Fiji born and France 7s team centre Virimi Vakatawa scored the last try to upset All Blacks 7s 24-0 in their first pool game.

In other matches this afternoon, South Africa thrashed Scotland 33-nil, Kenya defeated Russia 21-7, Argentina beat Australia 12-7 and Japan beat Wales 26-19.

Fiji will take on Portugal in its second match at 7.33pm.

Our last pool match is against England at 11.26pm.

The Cup quarter finals kick off at 3.58pm tomorrow, the Cup semis start at 8.28pm while the Cup Final kicks off at 11.38pm.
