The New Zealand government has donated more than $7 million of humanitarian assistance to Fiji for the recovery efforts of Cyclone Winston.

Major Chris Wilson from the New Zealand Defence Force says the donation was for emergency fund, relief supplies, supporting National Disaster Management Office with relief efforts and mechanic crews to support power restoration.

Wilson says they managed to fix 12 schools and a few medical facilities in Vanua Balavu.

He adds the New Zealand government has approved another FJ$13.9 million to be donated to Fiji and details on where the funds will be used will be agreed later on.

Minister for National Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu thanked the New Zealand government for all they have done for the Fijian people post Cyclone Winston.
