The 32‑year‑old former police officer who was charged with allegedly raping a 15‑year‑old girl in Navua has been acquitted by the Suva High Court this afternoon.
High Court Judge, Justice Achala Wengappuli concured with the three assessors and found the former police officer not guilty of one count of rape and one count of indecent assault.
Justice Wengappuli said the complainant and accused had sex three times before the incident and both cases were not reported to Police.
The Judge also said that the medical report does not show that there were any injuries on the girl.
The former Police Officer had denied taking advantage of the girl during the trial.
He had also told the court that he was in an intimate relationship with the girl and she showed no signs of refusal while they had sex.
