Almandin from Germany is the winner of the 2016 Melbourne Cup Race.
The winner has taken home AUD$3.6 million.
Almandin beat Heartbreak City in the last 50 metres in a very close finish.
Pre-race favourite, Hartnell came in third place.
It is the second Melbourne Cup win for jockey Kerrin McEvoy who won in 2000 when he was 20-years-old.
McEvoy is last year’s winning jockey Michelle Payne’s brother-in-law.
This is also the fifth Melbourne Cup victory for owner, Lloyd Williams.
