A 37-year-old man accused of attempted rape was tried in absentia in the Suva Magistrates Court today.
Isei Tamani is charged with one count of assault with attempt to rape.
The 27-year-old woman told the court that Tamani had assaulted her at the Suva Bus Stand at 7pm on the 9th of August in 2010 and dragged her along the market to Ritz Nightclub and forced her into a taxi.
She says she was shouting for help and no one had come to her assistance.
The woman says the taxi was directed to be taken to Toorak and Tamani had told her that he will rape her.
She says when they reached Toorak, he had forced her out of the taxi and while she fought back she was punched and kicked.
The woman says Tamani ran away when a police vehicle stopped at the scene.
Magistrate Deepika Prakash will deliver her judgement on the 6th of March.
